"The Composer Is The Disposer"

General Grant is the greatest man
That ever yet began;
For to put the Rebels down,
He adopted the right plan;
He kept General LEE at his stand,
He could not move one inch,
While SHERMAN and SHERIDAN
He sent out, Confederacy to quench.
Chorus:
GRANT was the man for LEE
The world may plainly see;
He held him right there,
He could not go elsewhere,
For to save the Confederacy.

2. The Government, they acted wise,
When they gave GRANT his way;
They did well to change their plan,
By that they gained the sway.
By General GRANT'S good management,
His wisdom and his skill,
Confederacy is speechless,
And dying without a will.
Chorus:

3. When GRANT besieged Richmond,
LEE thought that him he'd rout;
The task it was too hard for him,
It was after he found out;
When GRANT he took the Weldon Road,
No doubt it grieved LEE'S heart!
It was then he came to understand,
That GRANT he was too smart.
Chorus:

4. The Rebels swarmed in Richmond,
Liks bees into a hive;
But GRANT, he sucked the honey,
That was to keep them all alive.
The Master Bee together with LEE,
They must now obey;
For GRANT, he took the swarm,
And settled them the right way.
Chorus:
GRANT was the man for LEE,
The world may plainly see,
He had to resign,
And the Union will shine,
There's an end to Confederacy.

5. The Rebel Capitol is upset,
Its day it is now passed;
Like the Tower of Babel, it got a fall,
Down to the ground at last.
Now they see their vanity,
They are sorry, when too late;
GRANT and SHERMAN and SHERIDAN
Conquered them complete.
Chorus:

6. Now to conclude and finish
The end of my true song,
Confederacy is no more to be,
Though it had been very strong.
My name is JOYCE, in Boston I live,
A Poet that cannot see;
May GRANT and SHERIDAN live long,
And Union forever be.
Chorus:
