In verse 1, line 2, I had the following line:
Fighting for the property we gained by honest toil

This is not the original line. In fact this line was added after the War for Southern Independence by revisionist historians to promote a myth that the South was fighting for slavery (they were not).

I have a photo copy of an original musical score printed by A.E. Blackmar & Bro Inc., in the early years of the war, and this line reads....
"We are a band of brothers and native to the soil,
Fighting for our Liberty, With treasure, blood and toil

This fact can also be found in the book "The Flags of the Confederacy", by Devereaux D. Cannon, Jr., the Confederate Museum in Richmond, Va., & New Orleans La. - Brian E. Orgeron.
