This is not the original line. In fact this line was added after the War for Southern Independence by revisionist historians to promote a myth that the South was fighting for slavery (they were not).
I have a photo copy of an original musical score printed by A.E. Blackmar & Bro Inc., in the early years of the war, and this line reads....
"We are a band of brothers and native to the soil,
Fighting for our Liberty, With treasure, blood and toil
