Data about the life of the work:
This is the ultimate piece in terms of flexibility of usage! The one version supports the four voicings listed above, accompanied by organ, piano or string orchestra. As well, the composer sanctions the ad hoc use of violin, oboe, or perhaps flute to pick out the accompaniment obligato, and cello or double bass to play the bass parts of the accompaniment if desired. The original of this Easter Carol was a popular Dutch song of the seventeenth century. McKinley's arrangement dances along in exuberant style. The vibrant keyboard part in quasi Baroque style requires a good player. Suitable for church choirs as well as good school or community ensembles.
