The joyful birds sing praises
Of their happiness and the peace of summer.
From forest edge, from the silent nest
Their songs ring out.
A song of joy and hope
Rises from their throats
And enlivens our souls.
But you, Oh God, make our place
so beautiful in the summer hours.
Make me pay heed to your word
And your message of mercy.
Flesh perishes, the flowers die,
The temporal passes,
The Word of the Lord remains.
