| | | | | | | | | | | | 10 and 11 December World Choral Day Privileged access to Musica International for all visitors | | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | | To mark World Choral Day, which was launched 30 years ago by the IFCM, Musica International will be offering everyone unrestricted privileged access to the choral database, with no need to log in or give a password, throughout the weekend of 10 and 11 December. Full access is normally reserved for donors and the membership of certain choral federations. It opens the door to: - thousands of sound files in the Auditorium, which is where Musica International keeps its records in alphabetical order of composers;
- a list of composer anniversaries for the next three years;
- the complete list of composer biographies.

| | 1. Musica International highlights in 2022 and plans for 2023 |
| | This year could be summed up in two words: despite everything. Despite everything, the choral community has displayed unity and solidarity; despite everything, links are being restored; despite everything, there is still hope for a better future. Links The year 2022 saw the return of physical gatherings, so old contacts could be re-established and new ones made. The Musica team attended the World Choral Expo in Lisbon, the Choralies in Vaison-la-Romaine and Leading Voices in Utrecht. After a long break, a Musica session in Strasbourg brought together choral directors who added to the rich Musica database by inputting many new descriptive choral records. And the choral database continues to go from strength to strength, thanks to the permanent team in Strasbourg and the online contributions of many publishers and choral directors. More than 20 000 of the 33 000 biographies in the list of composers have now been reviewed and updated. | |
| | | | A communication manager has joined our team to help us strengthen existing partnerships and build new ones. Do not hesitate to contact her at communication@musicanet.org. An article published in the IFCM eNEWS explains how Musica outperforms Google when it comes to information on the choral repertoire. Solidarity Choirs all over the world are standing in solidarity with the Ukrainian people in the face of aggression. Musica's November 2022 selection for Favorite Piece introduced many people on the internet to Prayer for the Ukraine, a beautiful work by Valentin Silvestrov. A new Musica record has been created for the Ukrainian national anthem in an arrangement by Imant Raminsh; one interesting feature is a recording of the pronunciation made at our request by a native speaker of Ukrainian. What lies ahead Musica International is looking forward to 2023 : - As well as continuing to work on improving the database and developing social networks, we have a range of other projects in store. More on these when the time is right.
- In April we will be present in Istanbul at the World Symposium on Choral Music.
- We are planning to hold multiple in-person Musica sessions, including one in Strasbourg at the end of October.

| | 2. World Symposium on Choral Music |
| | Communication from the organizers: It is with great pleasure that we invite you to register as a participant in the WSCM 2023 Symposium on Choir Music, which will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye, on 25-30 April 2023. The theme for this event is “Changing Horizons”. We aim to attract representation from all regions in the world, including as many styles and traditions of ensemble singing as possible, in order to honour and celebrate the human practice of singing together. The program is packed with concerts, presentations, keynote speeches, reading sessions, composer meet & greets, and masterclasses. These will be carried out at the AKM, a state-of-the-art centre in the heart of the city where our main campus will be located. For masterclass application requirements: click here. Masterclasses will consist of conducting sessions with Ragnar Rasmussen, composition sessions with Ko Matsushita, and pop/jazz choir directing with Jim Daus Hjernoe. Applications for masterclasses will close on 15 December 2022. The early-bird registration deadline is 1 January 2023, and standard registration closes on 1 March 2023. Large groups of individual participants will also benefit from a discount: a 10%, 15% or 20% reduction for groups of 10+, 20+ and 30+ respectively. For more details and registration, please visit www.wscmistanbul2023.com. We look forward to welcoming you to Istanbul! | |

| | 4. Help us develop a concert theme |
| | In each MusicaMail we invite you to send us the titles of choral scores corresponding to a given theme. Where we already have a record for the pieces you suggest, we will add the keyword if necessary; otherwise, if we have sufficient information on a piece that is not yet in the database, we will create a new record. Failing that, we will either contact you for more information or give you write access to the database. | |

|
| | | - HELP TO REFERENCE YOUR CHORAL HERITAGE ONLINE! Musica International is a collaborative project that is run by and for people involved in choral singing. We need volunteers who want to share their passion with the choral community by taking an active part in the project. You can do this in many ways (such as inputting and checking records, translating, communication tasks). Do not hesitate to contact us at office@musicanet.org.
- You can now MANAGE YOUR OWN CHORAL HOLDINGS without needing to input all the data yourself. Just sign up for a “private field” in the Musica database and take advantage of all the information we already have, and all the power of our IT tools, to build up your own catalogue by simply adding your locations in your private field. The field will normally be accessible and visible to you alone, but you can also choose to share it more widely.
- We are also looking to establish a network of NATIONAL CORRESPONDENTS in all countries. Why not you? Even if you’re unavailable to do this yourself, perhaps you know someone who could – in your national choral federation for example. As Musica International is an academic project, this could be a wonderful opportunity for a university professor, a music librarian or similar.
