| A flashback to the World Symposium on Choral Music - Changing horizons |

|
| In April, Musica International was present at the World Symposium on Choral Music in Istanbul, Turkey, organized by the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM). This unifying event welcomed over 2,500 people to a rich programme of conferences, workshops, round tables, reading sessions, an expo and, of course, concerts. At the Musica stand at the expo, Anastasia, Jean and Pierre-Luc were able to present the project, meet up with friends and make new acquaintances. Our expo neighbors were with IFCM, European Choral Association - Europa Cantat (ECA), Choral Canada, Carus, Musica Baltica (all five are Musica members), Oxford Press, Astrum, Dozan World and others. |

The presentation "Building a concert program using online choral resources: the Musica project", given by Jean Sturm, Musica's Executive Director, attracted a large and attentive audience. Interesting questions were asked, such as "Can I search for sad pieces in Musica?" (answer: yes, just enter "sad" in the "Keywords/Genre/Style/Form" field, and you'll get over 2000 results; it would be useful to add a few more criteria to this search). Our team attended many other presentations and round tables, including those on concert design, music publishing, changing horizons, challenges for communication on choral events, choral acoustics and more. This exchange of perspectives and visions is always enriching. A number of meetings and presentations led to several scores being referenced in Musica (e.g. Little Trotty Wagtail by Peter BURTON, Kyrie by Kikuko MARUO, A Rozana by Bishr ISSA).
One of our objectives now is to better reference the Turkish choral repertoire - we're already working on it with the Turkish Federation! |

| | The variety of choirs and repertoires presented during the concerts was fascinating. Musica’s favorites are, to name a few, the Estonian Chamber Choir (conductor Tõnu Kaljuste), the Turkish State Choir (conductor Ragnar Rasmussen), the Fayha Choir (conductor Barkev Taslakian), Leioa Kantika Korala (conductor Basilio Astúlez), Vancouver Youth Choir (conductor Carrie Tennant), and A Capella Boğaziçi. Well done to all and thanks to IFCM for organizing it! See you next time! |

| Musica International invites you to meet again and talk repertoire, during a "Musica workshop" from October 23 to 28, 2023 in Strasbourg, France, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The concept of the Musica workshops is to bring together conductors, music librarians, publishers, and composers for a week of interaction, collaboration, and work. Participants interact directly with the database by entering new choral pieces and/or correcting and improving already-existing records. Throughout the workshop, participants exchange their knowledge, skills, and understandings under the guidance and with the support of the Musica team. Come participate in a worldwide collaborative project by contributing to the database while learning how to use it effectively.
The next workshop will take place on 23-28 October 2023, at the Institute of Phonetics of the University of Strasbourg, France.
Start of the Workshop: Monday, 23 October 2023, 2.00 pm. End of the Workshop: Saturday, 28 October 2023, noon.
Generally, the schedule is set by general consensus at the beginning of the session. Typically, this is a daily schedule: morning work from 9:00 am to 12:15 pm (coffee break around 11:00 am) lunch at 12:30 afternoon work between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm (coffee break around 4:00 pm) or sightseeing of the region, if working in the evening dinner in the city center free evening, a concert or socializing together
But… you are a volunteer! Therefore, you are of course free to determine your schedule!

If this is not the case, we will either contact you for more information or give you permission to enter details directly online. |

| - Help actively to reference your choral heritage online! Musica International is a collaborative project that is run by and for people involved in choral singing. We need volunteers who want to share their passion with the choral community by taking an active part in the project. You can do this in many ways, such as inputting and checking records, translating, assisting with communication tasks. Contact us at office@musicanet.org.
- You can now manage your own choral library without needing to input all the data yourself. Just sign up for a “private field” in the Musica database and take advantage of all the information we already have - all the power of our IT tools to build your own catalogue by simply adding your locations in your private field. The field will normally be accessible and visible to you alone, but you can also choose to share scores from your library more widely. Contact us at office@musicanet.org.
- Are you responsible for a choral federation? We offer global privileged access to www.musicanet.org for all your members, from your website! An advantage which your choir directors will thank you for. Contact us at office@musicanet.org.
- We are also looking to establish a network of national correspondents in all countries. Why not you? Even if you are unavailable to do this yourself, perhaps you know someone who could – someone in your national choral federation, for example. As Musica International is an academic collaborative project, this could be a wonderful opportunity for a university professor, a music librarian, a conductor, a singer, or anyone interested in the choral art.
