Manned by hard fighting men both of honor and fame?

But tonight she's in her grave at the bottom of the sea.

2. One hundred men were drowned in that dark watery grave
When that good ship went down only forty-four were saved.

From the cold icy waters off that cold Iceland shore.

The USS Reuben James was torpedoed by a German submarine off the coast of Iceland on October 30/31, 1941. Of the crew, 86 were killed and 44 were rescued.
